A wintry mix of rain and snow could be in store Sunday, but forecasts are still uncertain about timing and intensity.Steve Novak | For lehighvalleylive.com
Friday’s precipitation forecast has fizzled, leaving room for a bit of sun. But wet weather will arrive Sunday, and it could turn a bit wintry.
“Good start, not-so-good finish,” National Weather Service meteorologist Ray Martin said of the weekend forecast for the Lehigh Valley.
Forecasters were first eyeing Friday as a chance for rain and/or snow but the outlook has evolved to show the precipitation halted to the west. Now, Friday looks sunny and cooler, the weather service says. The first half of the weekend could see a stray shower but should stay mostly dry.
For Sunday, there is still uncertainty with forecast trajectory and intensity, Martin said, but the Lehigh Valley is likely to see rain, if not more. The potential for wintry weather is highest at the beginning or end of the system, either Sunday morning or late into Monday.
Some rain and snow is possible Sunday night in the Lehigh Valley and northern New Jersey, according to AccuWeather.AccuWeather.com
AccuWeather’s forecast puts us in the zone for a wintry mix with snow farther north. In a forecast video posted Thursday, Lehigh Valley-based EPAWA Weather Consulting said it is planning to roll out a snow accumulation map this weekend at least for areas north of I-80.
Sunday’s forecast is subject to change: “Still a lot to iron out about the details,” Martin said. But whatever happens, the early part of next week is expected to be dry and seasonal.
