Leonard Fournette sends message in Tampa Bay Buccaneers win over Arizona Cardinals – 247Sports

Leonard Fournette had a strong game in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 19-16 win over the Arizona Cardinals, carrying 20 times for 72 yards, but his big impact game through the air. Fournette caught nine passes for 90 yards, including a 44-yard reception that sparked the Bucs when they were down 16-6 in the fourth quarter. The former LSU star revealed a Lisfranc injury, which slowed his production.
“I hate when people be on here just talking saying I’m out of shape etc, do y’all understand I’m playing with a Lisfranc in my foot every week,” Fournette wrote in a now-deleted tweet. “Can barley push off my foot but through the Grace of God I’m going to keep proving y’all wrong #BucsWin”
It marked the first time since Week 2 that Fournette accumulated more than 70 rushing yards, but he has made an impact, going over 1,100 yards from scrimmage in the team’s first 15 games. Fournette has carried 179 times for 640 yards (3.6 average) and three touchdowns. He has also added 68 receptions for 500 yards and another three touchdowns. He signed a three-year, $21 million contract in the spring to remain with the Buccaneers.
Fournette made his name for himself in Tampa due to his playoff performances. In five games — including four during the Bucs’ Super Bowl winning season in 2020 — Fournette has 77 carries for 351 yards (4.6 average) and five touchdowns. He also has 30 receptions for 204 yards and one score.
In three seasons at LSU, he registered 616 carries for 3,830 yards and 40 touchdowns to go along with 40 receptions for 482 yards and one score, garnering consensus All-America honors as a sophomore in 2015. He finished his college career as the fourth-leading rusher in program history while ranking third in rushing touchdowns.

A former five-star recruit out of New Orleans St. Augustine, Fournette was the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2014 class. He was the top-ranked running back and No. 1 player from Louisiana He was also the top-ranked LSU signee of the modern recruiting era (since 2000) and the 15th-highest ranked prospect overall.
