Certified Meteorologist Glenn Burns’ first week on the air at WPTV in Florida is one that he’ll never forget.
He can still remember the Wednesday night in January when a child ran into the newsroom shouting for help after his father fell into a body of water right outside of the news station.
Burns quickly jumped into action, leaping into the water and pulling the man to safety.
“My first week was absolutely incredible,” said Burns, who has forecasted the weather for 47 years.
On Monday’s edition of “Closer Look,” the veteran weatherman talked with show host Rose Scott about several topics including, severe weather events in Atlanta, climate change and his passion for connecting with people by telling the daily weather story.
“I love doing what I do, I love broadcasting,” explained Burns.
He further talked about how technology has changed the industry and his recent retirement from WSB-TV after more than 40 years.
“I just wanted to make a difference and I hope I did,” he said.
